Washington Monument Hotels

The Washington Monument was the first architectural structure designed in honor of George Washington. The monument is located in the Mount Vernon area of Baltimore, Maryland, and was designed by Robert Mills, the same individual who designed the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Visitors can climb 228 steps to the top of the column and enjoy breathtaking views of the city from the historic district. Construction on the Washington Monument began in 1815 and the project was completed in 1829. The monument, composed of white marble, stands 178 feet tall and includes three central elements: the low rectangular base, a column, and a figure of George Washington standing on top of the column. The column houses a museum on the ground floor, which showcases information on George Washington and chronicles the process of erecting the monument. The original design of the column was hindered by financial worries, which ultimately resulted in a simpler column.
